Madhukar Kolli

DVM, Ms, Ph.D, Chief Veterinarian

Motivated from an early age living up in the farmland by my love of animals and a passion for science, I always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. I graduated from The College of Veterinary Science, Tirupati, India in 2004 with first class.

As a new graduate, I worked in India in a small and large animal practice for two years. With a passion for advancement in my career, I then moved to the United States of America and pursued my Masters and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences. I relished the experience of living and working in a different country. After completing my higher education, I worked in a busy small animal practice in Fayetteville, NC, for six years and helped pets and pet owners with preventive care, dental prophylaxis procedures, dental extractions, and soft-tissue surgeries.

My passion to work in a small individual practice became a reality during this time. I made the move to Charlotte in June 2018 to take on the veterinarian role at Best Care Animal Hospital in Matthews. I live in Matthews with my wife, two kids, and a dog - Candy. In my spare time, I like to travel and play volleyball. My next adventure is publishing a research project on breed associated changes with age!

I try to offer the best care to my clients and their pets and have a special interest in surgery, emergency care, and internal medicine.

Dr. Kolli has moved from Charlotte, NC to San Diego in April 2022 to enjoy the nice beaches of the West Coast.

Angela De Villa

DVM

Dr. Angela De Villa was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. She moved to the US in 2012 to play golf through her undergrad at Gonzaga University. Although she grew up around all kinds of animals, including many dogs, hamsters, chickens, and a pot-bellied pig, it wasn’t until she assisted with caring for a paretic Labrador Retriever one summer that she realized veterinary medicine was her true calling. Her family and friends, however, always knew she would save animals for a living one day. They referred to her as “Eliza Thornberry,” as she befriended and helped every animal she encountered.

Dr. De Villa earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University in 2022 and is especially thrilled to start her career in San Diego because of the beautiful beaches, great weather, and friendly people. She is passionate about soft tissue surgery, neurology, exotic animal medicine, and promoting the human-animal bond. Dr. De Villa is Fear-Free certified and aspires to make every visit as positive and painless as possible.

Outside of work, she enjoys going to the beach, traveling, hiking, golfing, dancing, exercising, going out to eat, and spending time with her 11-year-old rescue mutt, Beaker.

Dr. Kevin Scoggin

Veterinarian

I had always hoped to grow up to be like Davy Crockett or Daniel Boone who were my heroes in the 50’s and 60’s – eons ago. Instead of making friends with Native Americans like they did, I try to make friends with animals and help them when they need it. I grew up in Miami, Florida with lots of wildlife around. I loved alligators, crabs, turtle, snakes… you name it, I would watch it! School was always fun for me, as was ballet, tennis, orchestra, Honor Guard, French club, and various other activities and sports in high school. I attended college at Florida Institute of Technology to study Oceanography with plans to be like Jacques Cousteau with my own 2-man submarine and TV show. After moving to California, I switched to pre-veterinary studies at SDSU upon the realization that I could combine my two interests of nature and medicine into my career. Then, after graduating from UC Davis in 1983, I worked in emergency for 10 years before purchasing Grand Animal Hospital. I spend my free time with my animals and enjoy swimming and hiking with my husband of 16 years. I appreciate all my wonderful clients and their furry families, who are the best part of my busy days. Thank you. If you would like to find out more about my background, please ask!

Madelin Arbo

DVM

Dr. Madelin Arbo grew up in Paraguay, which is known as the “heart of South America.” She graduated from the Universidad Nacional de Asunción and in 2018 moved to the United States. In 2020-2021, she completed the Clinical Training Program at Oklahoma State University and the NAVLE (North American Veterinary Licensing Exam). A year later in 2022, she completed the ECFVG (Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates) program and became licensed to practice in the U.S. While preparing for the ECFVG exams, she worked as a veterinary technician in animal hospitals in South Dakota and later in North Carolina. She has a special interest in soft-tissue surgeries and internal medicine. She enjoys understanding the puzzle pieces of a clinical case and helping clients find solutions for their pets. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Her favorite dog breed is the dachshund, and she has two back home in Paraguay that live with her sister. Their names are Petunia and Mulan. In her free time, Dr. Arbo enjoys going for walks, swimming, dancing, cross-stitching, and spending quality time with her husband. She is excited to be part of the Grand Animal Hospital Team and to be living right by the beach after spending many years in landlocked regions.
